Day 952 (No more Walkman in Japan)
Wednesday, October 27, 2010

It got really cold today, so I decided to purchase oil for my heater and started using it as of today. Spoke to my Jamaican friend in another prefecture for about 2 hours.

The Walkman, the Sony cassette device that forever changed music listening before becoming outdated by digital MP3 players and iPods, has died. It was 31 years old.
Sony announced Monday it has ceased production of the classic, cassette tape Walkman in Japan, effectively sounding the death knell of the once iconic, now obsolete device.
The Walkman is survived by the Discman (still clinging to life) and ironic music listeners who think using a Walkman in this day-and-age is charmingly out-of-touch.
It will continue to be produced in China and distributed in the U.S., Europe and some Asian countries. Digital Walkmans are also being made with models that display lyrics and have improved digital noise-canceling technology.

Day 953 (Another bad football day)
Thursday, October 28, 2010

Went to football and again I fouled 2 guys accidentally. One of the organiser guys actually called me off the field. I didn't even bother to go back on. In the 2 years this thing has been going on, they had never called any one else off the court, but its understandable. My foreigner friend said I deserve at least a yellow card for what I did.

Days 942 - 948
Sunday, October 17, 2010 - Saturday, October 23, 2010

Day 942 ( Disputed islands )
Sunday, October 17, 2010

Stayed in all day.

So there is this big issue between Japan and China going on for the past month or so. There is a set of islands which are administrated by Japan but claimed by both Taiwan and China since about 1971. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senkaku_Islands

Recently, The Japanese government arrested some Chinese nationals who were fishing in that vicinity. It cause a biiiig problem between the 2 countries.

Relations between the 2 countries has gotten so bad in recent times that the following started happening :

Last weekend, angry young protesters in China and Japan took to the streets to demonstrate to the international community their countries' claims over what Tokyo calls the Senkaku Islands and Beijing refers to as the Diaoyu.

One of the sides must be wrong, historically. But which side? Each government, of course, says it has the better claim.

The mainland Chinese government and state-controlled media say the uninhabited islets in the East China Sea have belonged to China since ancient times, going as far back as the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). They also say Japan "stole" the islets together with Taiwan in the closing days of the first Sino-Japanese War (August 1894 to March 1895) in which Japan was victorious, critically weakening the already ailing Qing Dynasty.

Day 936 ( Sony's Internet TV )
Monday, October 11, 2010

Today was a holiday in Japan but I stayed in for the entire day.

Sony differentiates itself by proudly being the first Google TV provider to offer the system built directly into a TV, and with it a handheld remote control. Sony is also offering a Sony Internet TV Blu-ray Disc Player that will connect to any standard HDTV to give you a Google TV experience.

Google TV is a concept driven by a single idea: watch live TV while experiencing the Internet. If you’re watching a live TV show, you can search for online content directly on your TV from the comfort of your couch. What makes Google TV so futuristic is the fact that unlike a normal cable TV that searches only live content, Google TV will search recorded content, internet content, YouTube, and applications to create a powerful entertainment experience that combines internet and TV.

Day 937 { Another Day Off }

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

I got a day off today because the kids at my school today are on autumn holiday. I went to the super market and so a whole lot of persons there. I normally try as best as possible to avoid the crowd but this time it didn't work. One of the kids that I would teach today, saw me then started looking in my bag to see what I bought. Her mom was there looking on, seeming and it seemed as if she was a bit embarrassed. The kid then ran some where for a little while, then came back around to me, drawing more attention than I really need. The kid then started to jump in front of me for some unknown reason then touched me in my face and ran off again.... And every body was just there looking on..... Another day in my life in rural Japan.

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Today was quite a busy day. Left out of my apartment at about 10am to head for the orthodontist in Okayama city. Before I went to the orthodontist, I bought a new camera, a Sony Cybershot DSC W350. It is quite incredible for the price of only US$150

My orthodontist said he used to do karate as well... And the styles are the same as the ones I am doing now. I then went back to Niimi at about 4 pm and did a little survey thing with the lady who does bible study on Mondays.

I then left her house at around 6:30pm to attend a drinking party thing with the karate people.

We then went to a darts and billiards/pool bar afterwards. I got back to my apartment at about 2:30 am.
