Day 980 ( North and South exchange fire )
Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Did absolutely nothing except go to work.

North Korea fired dozens of rounds of artillery onto a South Korean island near the tense western sea border on Tuesday, killing two South Korean soldiers and warning of further strikes, the South Korean military said.
The artillery shells, fired from positions in North Korea, started falling on Yeonpyeong island and surrounding waters around 2:34 p.m., said Col. Lee Bung Woo, spokesman for the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff estimated that some 100 shells landed on and near Yeonpyeong island, which lies about 3 kilometers south of the Yellow Sea border, until 4:42 p.m., according to the South's Yonhap News Agency.
The South responded with about 80 rounds. Lt. Gen. Lee Hong Ki, who in charge of military operation at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the North was expected to have suffered "extensive damage" as a result of the South's fire.

Day 981 ( My New Online Shop - Rakuten )
Thursday, November 25, 2010

I was searching online for snow tires on Sunday because my car mechanic says the cheapest they can get my size snow tires for was at 60,000 yen ( US $600 )... I was like hells no. So I was going to get some on Amazon.co.jp but I would have to use my credit card, which I refuse to use. So while searching, I happened upon this site called rakuten...

A very convenient online store in Japan that does cash on delivery. I got my tires there for only 32,000 yen ( US$320 ). I also bought 2 coats and some other stuff. All of them got delivered today.

Day 982 (Dinner with my Japanese friends)
Friday, November 26, 2010

After work, I met briefly with one of my friends then went to dinner afterwards at a Korean restaurant in Niimi.

I then went to darts shortly afterwards.

Day 983
Saturday, November 27, 2010

Watched an ALT do his presentation on Canada for the second time which was fine, but I missed another ALTs presentation on latin dance. I got there a bit late because I forgot exactly where the library was and because I was spinning in my apartment doing nothing.

Day 970 ( Drinking with the Orthodontist and friends )
Sunday, November 14, 2010

Happy Birthday Donna and Danielle although I doubt any of you read this blog.

Went to Okayama city today to meet my orthodontist, one of his assistants and her friend. We spoke, ate and drank for a while. They were surprised that I could speak some amount of Japanese. My orthodontist is actually half Mexican/Half Japanese. His mother is Japanese and father is Mexican.

We had fun there and I made a small ustream video with my iphone. Here it is http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/10853688

I ended up sleeping at an internet cafe in Okayama city for the night because it was too late to head back to Niimi.

Day 971 ( More Testing of Ustream )

Monday, November 15, 2010

I had to catch a 5:20 am train this morning to head back to Niimi. I then drove back to my apartment, got a 30 mins nap then head for work.

After work today, one of my most recent Japanese friends, gave me a Japanese story book to help me study more Japanese. I think the title means something like 1 million times rebirth or resurrection of a cat.

I went to bible study then afterwards tried out this ustream thing again while talking to my friend online... here is the video.

Day 972 ( Japanese event in Jamaica / Blue Belt in Karate )
Tuesday, November 16, 2010

There was a Japanese event in Jamaica between Saturday and Sunday. My Japanese friend who lives in rural Jamaica took some pictures of the event.

Today I received my blue belt in Karate.... Yaaaay me :) It was hard work but I did it, I skipped the orange belt with the kata that I performed. My friend Chris got an orange belt, by skipping the yellow belt with his kata.

I also made a ustream video after I received the blue belt http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/10892594

Day 973
(Water Shortage)
Wednesday, November 17, 2010

For the first time in over 2 years living in Japan, there was water shortage at my school today. There was little or no water in the pipes until it was about 3:00 pm.

After work, I assisted my Japanese friend who works at the city office to properly translate a policy document for JET ALTS. We then had dinner with his wife at a nearby restaurant.

Day 974 (None stop crying grade 6 kid / Need new Tires)
Thursday, November 18, 2010

Took a pre-graduation photo with the grade 5 students at the school I went to today. There was this one girl who was crying like crazy for some unknown reason and she didn't want to go in the photo. She had us the teachers and her classmates waiting on her for over 30 mins and she still would not budge. She kept crying none stop. The principal, vice principal and her classroom teacher were trying to convince her to come, but that didn't work. They tried lifting her and forcing her, but that didn't work either. They had to call her mom and even that didn't work. So we had to take the graduation photo without her. Even now, nobody can tell why she was crying....

Filled my car tank today as well as washed it. They told me that I desperately need new snow tires, because the ones I have now are neither good for snow nor even rain for that matter. But snow tires for my car is expensive. And I just recently paid over 70,000 yen (around US $690) for my car inspection. I can't get to save a dime in this country.

Day 975 ( Black Ops / Darts )

Friday, November 19, 2010

Today I forgot my wallet in my apartment. So I drove to work without my driver's licence and without money. If I got stopped by the police, I would be in biig trouble. I was also lucky that I didn't have anything to pay for.

Received the much anticipated game, call of duty black ops today after work.

I then went to karate after work, then to the Friday English conversation thing to show them my blue belt from karate. Then of course to the darts bar. They now have a foreigner display board in the darts bar.

Day 976 ( 2 Years 8 Months / Avatar again )
Saturday, November 20, 2010

Had lunch with an ALT and a Japanese friend of mine at a nearby restaurant today. Then they came to my apartment to watch Avatar on DVD. We also watched a couple youtube videos and I showed them some pictures of my travels to Panama, Brazil, Bahamas etc...

Saw a beautiful rainbow at my school today.

It was actually right there in the school yard.

Day 966 (Surprise Party)
Wednesday, November 10, 2010

After work, I ran to a surprise party for the guy that lives on the same apartment complex with me. It was held at his girlfriend's house. To my surprise, ALL the ALTs in Niimi were there except for this one guy who is gone on vacation back to Canada.

Day 967
Thursday, November 11, 2010

After work I went to football. I again fouled a guy from the opposing team, to which one of my Japanese team mates screamed out my name. Yes, this is becoming a strange habit of mine, when I lose the ball, I tackle from behind, and the guys lose their balance. This time nothing happened though because he didn't fall.

Day 968 ( Karaoke and more Darts )
Friday, November 12, 2010

Happy Birthday mi bredrin Richard....

Today at work, the grade 4 teacher left me to teach his class because he had to go to do some business. He told me to tell them the differences between the primary schools in Jamaica and those in Japan. I also told them some stories about me while I was in Primary school, to which they were all laughing frantically. I can't believe I told them these stories in mostly Japanese.

Went to karaoke with an ALT, the Japanese girl who is studying English and one of her friends. We stayed there for nearly 3 hours singing random Japanese and English songs.

After karaoke we went to the great darts bar for a while. I introduced the girls to darts.

Day 969 ( Whatsapp and Ustream)
Saturday, November 13, 2010

Stayed in for most of the day but while I was in my apartment in the day, my friend Richard's Party was going on in the night in Jamaica. All my core friends from university were there but alas, I missed it.

I got some pictures from one of my friend's who was there though via an application he told me to download on my iphone called whatsapp. He also introduced me to another great application where video streaming can be down via the iphone name ustream.
In the night I went to another ALT get together at a nearby restaurant.

Day 957
Monday, November 1, 2010

Saw a Japanese friend of mine who I haven't seen since July. She is now working at the gas station that I normally go to.

Day 958
Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Saw 2 of my ALT friends in the super market today as well as a Japanese high school girl who come to the Friday English conversation thing. She was pretending as if she was looking for something but really was trying to listen to what we were saying. Her English is pretty good though.

Later the 3 of us ALTs went to karate.

Day 959
Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Today was another holiday in Japan, and I spent about 5 hours on skype helping my Japanese friend who is in Jamaica to complete a lesson plan. It was nostalgic to go over my old lesson plans from my last job. I don't need to do this stuff any more.

In the evening I had dinner with a new Japanese friend and an old Japanese friend. We spoke about various stuff while we ate.

Day 960 (Video of Island dispute)
Thursday, November 4, 2010

Watched Dexter today, and it is getting more and more interesting.

There was a video leak of what transpired between the Japanese coast guards and the Chinese people who were sailing in an area administered by Japan.

A video apparently taken by the Japan Coast Guard of the Sept. 7 collisions between a Chinese trawler and patrol vessels off the Senkaku Islands has shown up on YouTube, prompting China to express "concern" over already strained bilateral relations.

Here is the video

Day 961
Friday, November 5, 2010

I taught only 2 classes today, one at my furthest school, and the other at the kindergarten. When I was at the kindergarten, a lady just started talking to me and told me she visited Mexico and was wondering where Jamaica was. She also said she visited several European countries as well as the US.

After I taught at the kindergarten, I went back to my furthest school, where the English coordinator asked me to accompany him with the kids. The kids were going on the road to clean up garbage that was littered on the side of the road. There is little or no garbage on the roads in Japan, even more so in rural Japan. We walked for about 1 hour or so watching the kids searching like crazy for garbage. They called this special clean up day "cling cling" (I think it means clean clean). This was a welcomed change from just sitting around either doing nothing or on the computer.

I then went to the car mechanic to do my mandatory car check up, which I think is a rip off. Everyone has to do this check up every 2 years, and it is expensive. They gave me a loaner car until Monday, by then my car should be fixed.

After this I went to karate then to the Friday English conversation, then to the darts bar. So I had a full day today.

Day 962
Saturday, November 6, 2010

Went to Okayama city to tighten my braces. While on my way to the orthodontist, I was in a bus and the driver asked me, "are you Usain Bolt?" .... I said NO but we are from the same country. I then asked him why he asked such a question... He then said "I resembled Usain Bolt" WHAT!!!!!! Look at these pictures and tell me the truth... Do I look anything like this guy??
