Day 1069 { Brooklyn's Finest }
Monday, February 21, 2011

After work I went back to my apartment to watch a movie name Brooklyn's finest. It was basically about some police guys who met up coincidentally at the same place. The movie had some interesting scenes, but I still don't get the point of the entire movie even now.

Day 1070 { House }
Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Took photos with the grade 6 students and all the teachers at my main school today. I am fully aware that the Vice principal is going to give me the photos then ask me to pay 300 yen for it. This happens every year. This is the only school that give me a photo then ask me to pay for it.

Went to the Tuesday evening English conversation thing in the evening. This time I was the only Foreign English teacher there. I spoke about my major in university as well as all my past jobs.

Also when I got home I started watching the TV series known as house. So far I find it interesting.

Day 1071
Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Did nothing after work except watched some more House.

Day 1072 { Want to go to Jamaica }
Thursday, February 24, 2011

Skipped football today because I was just feeling lazy.

I was chatting online to one of my friends from Germany who says she want to go to Jamaica really really badly. We chatted online for a bit. I am getting some information for her to study in Jamaica for 1 year. She said she liked the vibes of the Jamaicans when we met her in Germany in 2008. Since then she said she always wanted to visit Jamaica.

Day 1073
Friday, February 25, 2011

Skipped karate today because of the cold gym. Went instead to the Friday English conversation thing. I gave one of the participants a couple of reggae CDs (songs from 2006-2010) because she is a huge reggae fan.

Day 1074
{ Ski Number 2 }
Saturday, February 26, 2011

Went skiing from about 6:00 pm until about 11:00 pm. On weekends it is kept open until 3 am Sunday morning. I enjoyed the skiing for the most part but I am still having trouble just simply standing. Here is a video I made of it...

Day 1061
Sunday, February 13, 2011

Stayed in all day and all I did was start playing Call of Duty black ops again. Today I got some cookies from a friend of mine in . They were delicious.

Day 1062 ( Valentine's Day)
Monday, February 14, 2011

Happy Valentine's Day. At least this one was wayyy better than last year. After work, I posted a book, a claim for medical insurance and also a car part for my friend in Jamaica. This is the first time trying to send a car part down to Jamaica. So anybody in Jamaica or anywhere that need any small original car part, just send me your chassis number and I can send the part :)

Some one at the post office gave me a small chocolate cake for Valentine's day today. In Japan, it's customary for a female to give a male chocolate on valentine's day. Not because they are in love with the person or anything like that but just something cultural I guess. The males should return the favour on white day on March 14.

In the evening no Bible study was kept because too much snow was on the road. So I ended up watching Transporter 3. Nice action movie.

Day 1063
Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Went to the usual Tuesday night English conversation thing. This time we spoke about our travels to different parts of the world and different parts of Japan.

Again the picture is courtesy of Yamauchi sensei.

Day 1064 ( Final Video shoot for season 5 )
Wednesday, February 16, 2011

After work, I did the final video shoot for season 5 of my show. Very possibly my final show in Niimi, but I am not quite sure yet.

Day 1065 ( China now ahead of Japan )
Thursday, February 17, 2011

Went to play football in the night but I was playing with no will whatsoever. I scored 3 goals while warming up with my team mates but our team got destroyed by the opposing team when they arrived.

China now officially has the second biggest economy in the world.

Economy sees first quarterly fall in five

1.1% setback as China officially becomes No. 2

The Japanese economy contracted in the three months through December, allowing Japan to officially crown China the world's second-biggest economy, a status it had held for more than 40 years, the government said Monday.

Day 1066
Friday, February 18, 2011

Drove another route while heading back from work today, just for the heck of it. It took a bit longer than normal though and that route was quite mountainous, with some parts having lots of snow on the road.

After work I went to karate, first time in 2 months. The gym was very cold and we did some very hard work out. After karate I stopped by the Friday evening English conversation which I haven't been to since about November. Then later I went to the darts bar. I won 2 games and lost 2.

Italians in Japan, protest against the Italian Prime minister who is allegedly involved in orgies etc at age 74 :o

More than 100 Italian and Japanese staged an angry demonstration in Tokyo against Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi over his alleged orgies, including with a 17-year-old girl.

"I'm ashamed. The whole world is watching us and judging us. It's impossible somebody behaving like that is a prime minister," Beatrice Lombardi, 43, an Italian who organized Sunday's rally, told The Japan Times in front of the Italian Cultural Institute in Chiyoda Ward.

The demonstration coincided with others in various Italian cities and world capitals and involved more than 100,000 Italian women and their supporters, who are demanding greater dignity for Italian women and the ouster of Berlusconi, 74.

Day 1067 ( Naked man festival )
Saturday, February 19, 2011

Was supposed to meet up with a friend today but it got cancelled. I was also supposed to go to the crazy yearly naked man festival but I was feeling a bit too lazy. At this event, around 9000 men dressed in sumo like outfits try to get a stick. here are 2 videos of it.

I also ended up watching the princess and the frog. I didn't really expect much of it but it was a great animation I think.

Days 1054 - 1060 Sunday, February 6, 2011 - Saturday, February 12 , 2011

Days 1054 - 1060 Sunday, February 6, 2011 - Saturday, February 12 , 2011

Day 1054 ( Interview )
Sunday, February 6, 2011

Went to Okayama city today to do an interview for a similar teaching job, based in another prefecture. I think it went well, but lets see how everything will go. I have some thinking to do. At the interview they told me that we don't have to pay that exorbitant fee for the Japanese insurance thing. So it is like this :

Kokumen Hoken - I think this is the national health insurance and if you want this one, you have to pay back money for how long you have been working in Japan.

Shakai Hoken - This one you don't have to pay the back money but not every city or company uses this insurance. Your company stands part of the insurance fee while you pay the other part.

Day 1055 (Accident in Niimi)
Monday, February 7, 2011

The vice principal at my school today showed me an internet footage about a bus that was transporting some students that met in an accident. The students were from the biggest elementary school in Niimi and the news was all over Japan. Even my friend in Tokyo sent me a message about seeing the accident on TV. Here it is

Okayama bus-crane crash hurts 21

OKAYAMA (Kyodo) Twenty elementary school pupils and a man were injured Monday morning when a truck-mounted crane struck a school bus carrying 51 children, causing the bus to crash into an office building in Niimi, Okayama Prefecture, police and fire officials said.

The pupils and a 43-year-old businessman who was working in the building were taken to hospitals with abrasions and other minor injuries, while other passengers reported feeling sick, the officials said.

The crane truck was entering a road when the arm of the crane struck the bus at around 7:45 a.m., causing the bus to knock over a utility pole before crashing into an automobile sales and repair firm.

The police are questioning the 57-year-old driver of the crane truck and the 62-year-old bus driver on suspicion that negligence was involved in the accident.

The damage to the utility pole triggered a power outage affecting about 250 households in the area.

Went to bible study in the night and one of my friend's there showed me a book that was advertising Jamaica.

Day 1056 ( Season 5 Video Shooting )
Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Today marks 2 years ago since my cousin / best friend Andre Jasper Mair died. R.I.P mi bredda. since Andre died, I don't know who else I can call a best friend. I have a couple of good friends but no best friend. My book was dedicated to him. 安らかにお眠り下さい。

In the evening I did a video shoot for the 5th season of my show. This was the intro part. It took only 25-30 mins complete.

I then went to the Tuesday Ekaiwa thing where we spoke about hobbies. The lady to the right in the picture also does karate with me and she spoke about her love for karate. So she decided to do a kata and she asked me and my friend Andrew to also do it as well.

Day 1057
Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Went back to my apartment after work and finally ended the game Bayonetta.

Day 1058 (Ear acting up)
Thursday, February 10, 2011

My ear started acting up again so I wanted to ask for about a 30 mins time off from work today to go to the ear, nose and throat doctor. Unfortunately, the principal and vice principal left early and there was no one else to ask if I could do that. So I stayed until 4pm then dashed quickly to go to the doctor. The one I went to was not opened on Thursdays so I had to go to the central hospital and luckily an ENT specialist was there. Now my ear is fine again.

Played football in the night and as usual it was fun, and also as usual I was very tired quickly.

Day 1059 (Social Network)
Friday, February 11, 2011

Today was a well needed national holiday. I stayed in all day, didn't even open my apartment. I ended up watching the movie Social Network, based on the founders of FaceBook. It was quite an interesting movie.

Day 1060 ( Step up 3 )
Saturday, February 12, 2011

Stayed in for most of the day today again. Watched the movie step up 3. The story line was lame and predictable also the acting was horrible. But the dancing was AWESOME!!! I didn't really care about the story line but I wanted to see the dancing which was just amazing.

In the evening I was going to the darts bar and when I opened my apartment door it was all snow. I picked up my friend and we still went to the darts bar though. I played 4 games. Won 2 of them and lost 2. My friend in Tokyo drew a picture of me doing karate.

Yeah Richard I play the PS3 with HDMI -> HDMI connection, suh it run faaas. And yeah is Chantell Crooks send the tings dem fi mi.

Days 1047 - 1053 Sunday, January 30, 2011 - Saturday, February 5 , 2011

Days 1047 - 1053 Sunday, January 30, 2011 - Saturday, February 5 , 2011

Day 1047 ( Late Pick up )
Sunday, January 30, 2011

Stayed in most of the day then while I was getting ready to sleep, I got a call from a Niimi ALT at about 11:30 pm, saying that she took a wrong train and would get stuck in a city 45 mins to an hour away from me. So I went to pick her up and brought her to her bicycle. I ended up going to bed at around 1:30 am.

It was a little hard to get up out of my slumber, but I couldn't feel good within myself to know I could help a fellow foreigner, out in the middle of no where and not help them. It is kind of rough being a foreigner in the country side of Japan.

Day 1048 ( Coldest recorded Day in Niimi )
Monday, January 31, 2011

I noticed while I was dropping the ALT to pick up her bicycle, that the temperature meter was saying -8 degrees Celsius / 17 degrees Fahrenheit. At school I heard it went as low as -12 degrees Celsius / 10 degrees Fahrenheit. They said it is the coldest it has ever been in Niimi since they started recording temperatures. And I had to be here to experience it. So this summer was the hottest, and this winter was the coldest.

I paid off my city tax today and collected a certificate as proof. I also queried about the national health insurance thing and it would come up to a whopping 400,000 yen if I decided to take it.... HECK NO!!! I will rather take my chances with the international health plan that I have now. It is even cheaper to go back to Jamaica than to pay that.

Spoke to a Japanese friend of mine from Kobe, on skype for a little while today.

Went to bible study in the night.

Day 1049 ( Pounding rice in the Cold )
Tuesday, February 1, 2011

There was no water at some of the pipes at my school today because the water was frozen. The kids along with some elders from around the community did the rice pounding thing today in the freezing cold. I went out there for about 2 seconds then made my way back into the office. At least this school is considerate and has an heater in the office that they keep on pretty much all day.

In the evening I went to the Tuesday English conversation thing. For 6 weeks they are having a special session with the ALTs and people that live in the community and want to have conversations with us. I hope you don't mind me using your picture Yamauchi sensei. :)

Day 1050
Wednesday, February 2, 2011

All I did after work was played Bayonetta. I am finally at the last boss.

Day 1051
Thursday, February 3, 2011

Played football in the night. Only 6 of us turned out but it was fun. I was extremely tired after like 5 minutes in the cold gym. I was breathing really heavily as well. This cold climate is not for me at all.

Day 1052 ( Video shoot #2 )
Friday, February 4, 2011

Gave stickers to the grade 1 - 3 kids at my school today.

After work I did my second video shoot for season 5 of my show. This one was done in another section of the Board of Education. We finished in less than 1 hour.

I was exhausted after the video shoot, but an ALT who resigned and went back to England, decided to come back to Niimi. He was a good friend so I went to see him at the darts bar. We spoke at length and I slightly beat him in a game of darts. I am finally realizing that after the week has ended, I am very exhausted.

Day 1053 ( Out with the Braces )
Saturday, February 5, 2011

For the first time in my almost 3 years of being here, I drove to the city. I decided to drive to my orthodontist today. I made one wrong turn, but that was all. I got there in about 1 hr 30 mins. My orthodontist decided that it is time to take out my braces now. So I am finally free again. This time with my teeth well aligned :) They gave me some invisalign as well but I should use them at nights.

I had lunch with my orthodontist then I drove back to Niimi which was very very easy, because signs are everywhere pointing to Niimi. But while driving back I was exhausted and I caught my self falling asleep around the steering wheel. I snapped out of it in a split second, Thank you Lord!!!
