Nara, Japan / Recent Happenings - New Jamaican JET Teachers in Japan / TeamLab★Planets Tokyo
Hi again,
Somehow I managed to blog this month!
This month I will write a little about Nara, an old capital of Japan. Nara was the capital of Japan between 710 - 784. Some of the historic sites still remain since then.
I visited there back in 2011 and it has an unexplainable peacefulness about it that I've never experienced anywhere else in Japan. The deers around there will follow you for food and will eat your maps if you don't be careful.
Nara also has a lot of world heritage sites and is right next to Kyoto. It is an interesting place to visit especially for nature lovers.
Recent Happenings
Day 3699 (New Jamaican JET Teachers in Japan)
Tuesday, July 31, 2018
I was invited by the Jamaican Embassy in Japan to attend a welcome reception for the new Jamaican JET Teachers that just came to Japan. Over 30 of them came. The largest JET intake since Japan started accepting Jamaicans to teach in Japan.
It was a good reception with good food. A former Japanese ambassador to Jamaica also came and gave a brief speech.
Day 3703 (TakoYaki / Octopus Balls)
Saturday, August 4, 2018
My wife decided to make octopus balls aka takoyaki today for dinner. It's a famous food in Japan especially Osaka.
Day 3704 (Barbecue with the Neighbors)
Saturday, August 5, 2018
Same as last year, my neighbors had a barbecue right beside our house. We told them it was ok to use our land space to sit and eat as well.
Day 3714 (Last Night of Lifehouse Conference)
Saturday, August 15, 2018
My church in Japan had the last night of their yearly conference in Roppongi, Tokyo today. It was an amazing worship experience.
Day 3716 (Jamaican Summer Dinner)
Friday, August 17, 2018
Since my director saw me on Japanese TV talking about the Jamaican restaurant in Shibuya in 2016 (2 years ago), he wanted to go to the restaurant. Saw I invited him back in Dec 2016, then again in Dec 2017 and he said now we should go there at least twice a year. So I made a plan for a summer version and a winter version. That summer version was today.
Day 3717 (TeamLab★Planets)
Saturday, August 18, 2018
Went to this thing called TeamLab★Planets in Tokyo with Takako. It was very interesting. It was a little expensive but worth it. Here are some of the pictures (in no particular order).
Day 3723 (Dropped iphone)
Friday, August 24, 2018
Going to work today in Ginza, Tokyo and was trying to take out my swipe card from my bag, while holding my phone. And not surprisingly, my phone fell and the glass shattered. That's all for now, see you next blog.
