12 Years in Japan / RIP Shimura Ken / Kimetsu no yaiba / Interview on Podcast

Wow and what a year it has been so far jeez. At this point of writing, I have been working from home almost a month now and it is pretty hard. Luckily, I can actually do my job from home and don't have to be worrying about going into Tokyo daily on the STILL PACKED TRAINS!! Can you believe the trains are still packed in the mornings even during this pandemic!!! It is unfortunate that some (many in Japan) actually thinks the kaisha (company) is more important than life itself. And the media and government are subtly downplaying the effects of COVID-19 in Japan it would seem.

I saw on the news that people are trying to get tested and are either:
(1) Being refused or
(2) Being given the runaround (the more popular of the two)

One lady said she tried over 50 places. Another elder woman said she also tried over 70 places and still couldn't tested, even with strong symptoms!!! So it is very clear that the number of cases that are being reported on the news is wayyyyy shy of reality.

Anyway, there isn't a lot to write about now because of the lockdowns and working from home, except for the lots and lots of movies that we have been watching. I usually watch a lot of movies anyway but more so now. I have been going for walks and jogs around my community at least 3-4 times a week. Lots of nature around here

I also didn't realize until a few months ago while taking a jog, that we live pretty darn close to the sea.

I also want to big up my friends Marvin and Reika and their business Nala Creative Studio. You can check them out on facebook. They do art exhibitions, drawings, paintings, portraits etc. Reika also does professional translation services (English to Japanese and Japanese to English).

Day 4287 (Big slice of Pizza at Spontini)
Friday, March 13, 2020

Had pizza for dinner with my good friend from church. It was the first time trying out this pizza place name Spontini at the Yokohama station. Look at the size of this slice of pizza....It wasn't as good as how it looks though, to me at least.

Day 4288
Saturday, March 14, 2020

Watched this Netflix movie called "Spenser Confidential". It was ok. Maybe 6/10.

Day 4294 (12 Years in Japan)
Friday, March 20, 2020

Today marks 12 years since I came to Japan. And I am still not fluent in Japanese! Also still struggling to study. This is the first picture I took when I just arrived...

Recently I've been playing a whole lot of pokemon on my DS, because hey, I have the time now! Realized I stopped playing one of them from 2016 (Pokemon white 2) and another from 2013 (Pokemon black). I even ordered a 3DS XL from America. Old system but I'm just catching up now. Yeah whatever, I know that I am a big kid!! And I don't care!

Watched a movie "St. Vincent" ... This too was just ok. Good story though.

Day 4296
Sunday, March 22, 2020

Watched "The change up" . This was pretty funny.

Day 4298
Tuesday, March 24, 2020

Watched "3 Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri" and "Kingsman - Golden Circle"... Both interesting-ish and both 6/10. Both also had some disturbing scenes...

Day 4303

Sunday, March 29, 2020

Watched "Hope Springs" a drama with a touch of comedy starring Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep.

Day 4304 (COVID-19 Getting closer!)
Monday, March 30, 2020

Heard today that an infamous Japanese comedian, "Shimura Ken" as well as the brother of a close friend of mine, died from COVID-19. Also heard that a cousin of mine contracted it but has fully recovered thank God.

This was one of his funniest skits to me. It's a bit on the naughty side but still funny.

Day 4310

Sunday, April 5, 2020

Watched an old movie name  "St. Elmo's Fire" ... Heard about this from a long time ago but it was the first time watching it. It wasn't too bad 6/10.

Day 4311 (Nintendo 3DS XL)
Monday, April 6, 2020

Got my Nintendo 3DS XL today that I ordered online (thanks Joe). Luckily I did some research before I bought it. They are selling for very cheap in Japan now, but they are region locked! Meaning the Japanese games can't work in the US systems and vice versa.

Day 4319 (Video Shoot at home/Jamaipanese Podcast)
Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Made a video today and uploaded to our company's youtube channel. It's for JHS students.

I also did an interview with my good friend Kirk of Jamaipanese.com. You can check out the podcast here:

Day 4323
Saturday, April 18, 2020

Watched "There's something about Mary" again after several years. I watched it a long time ago and didn't remember a thing about it. I remember it was funny. It was still funny after watching it again 7/10.

I also watched "The Lego Movie - The second part". This too was funny. These lego movies always crack me up so 7/10.

Day 4327 (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
Wednesday, April 22, 2020

Started watching this very interesting anime with my wife. It is called "Kimetsu no yaiba". It reminds me of an anime I used to watch name "Bleach".  I used to see people watching this on the train when going to work and was wondering what the big deal was. It's pretty good if you are an anime fan.

I'm purposely watching it without English subtitles to practice my Japanese. But of course I'm constantly bothering my wife when I miss something.

Please to stay safe out there and stay at home! As we say in Jamaica "Tan a yuh yard".

Next blog, I will talk about my experiences 3 years ago (2016-2017) when I used to have anxiety/panic attacks. Stay tuned.......
